How to make Chocolate Pound Cake?

There are a number of desserts which people like to have after their meal. Pound cake is a cake in which measurements are conducted in pounds. Today, this method has lost its value since now measurements are brought in cups. It is basically a north European dish. Everything along the pound cake is equal. But people started adding ingredients unequally and new flavors were added. The pound cake gained many flavors and popularity. The name was given pound because the measurements were taken in pound but ingredients were added unequally.

An easy recipe of how to make the pound cake is:


  • 1 1/4 cups  flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon  salt
  • 3/4 cup  cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 1/3 cups  sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs

For the glaze:

  • 1/3 cup fresh cream
  • 3 tablespoons  corn syrup
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate, finely chopped



Add flour and salt in a bowl and keep them aside.

In another bowl, whisk cocoa powder and simultaneously add boiling water, stir continuously.

Beat butter and sugar together and then add eggs. Beat the mixture well.

Add the cocoa powder mixture and blend them as well as you can.

Next, combine the flour mixture and mix them until everything is fully integrated.

Pour it down in the greased pan and bake for about 35 minutes until the tester comes out neat.

Let it finish cooling on a rack.

Method of glaze:

In a sauce pan, add cream and corn syrup. Heat it on a low flame and keep stirring. Cook until it simmers.

Remove from heat and quickly add chocolate mixture.

Stir until the chocolate gets melted and the mixture turns smooth.

Pour it in the cool cake.

The delicious chocolate pound cake is ready.

Tip while making cake is that, whenever you make the cake make sure everything is in correct measurement. Even if the teaspoon is replaced by tablespoon, the cake has the chances to get spoiled. If managed carefully, nothing will go awry and a good-looking and delicious cake is cooked.
